Inverclyde Hospital

Integration is paramount when considering specifying new, or upgrading existing, nurse call systems in healthcare environments, and was a key consideration in the recent installation of a nurse call and staff attack system at Inverclyde Royal Hospital’s Larkfield Unit for the Elderly.

In close partnership with managers Bellrock and installers Secom, Intercall worked directly with the hospital team to design and produce three custom faceplates that integrated smoothly into the existing containment boxes. These units were specifically engineered to meet all HTM 08-03 regulatory requirements. This tailored technical solution avoided the need for major rewiring or renovations, delivering substantial cost savings for the Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Trust.

The nurse call system, adapted using Intercall Touch, includes advanced features such as the pressure mat bed occupancy detector, which discreetly monitors when a patient is in bed and raises an alarm should they leave unexpectedly. Each bed has been equipped with a patient handset featuring an easy-to-use call button and bedside light control, supported by a convenient handset holder to keep it within easy reach. This installation combined intelligent design, regulatory compliance, and patient-centred functionality, demonstrating Intercall’s commitment to delivering innovative, reliable solutions for modern healthcare environments.

In the hospital’s Mental Health Unit, the system was further enhanced by integrating the Intercall Guardian Staff Duress solution. Staff were issued with discreet personal alarms that when activated will generate a silent alert to summon urgent assistance in the event of an incident. The discreet alarms provide peace of mind and added protection for frontline healthcare workers who could be at risk of attack.

Gordon Abbott of Secom commented: “The installation went smoothly. This is the first time I’ve personally used Intercall and found the equipment easy to work with. It was logical, easy to program and commission”.

This project is another example of Intercall’s ongoing commitment to delivering intelligent, regulation-compliant, and patient-centred solutions across the healthcare sector.
